Visit of Montenegrin delegation to Israel in the framework of NATO-GEPSUS project

Delegation of the Ministry of Defense, headed by Deputy Minister Mira Cerovic as a project director, was at official visit to Israel from 11 to 16 March 2012 as part of the NATO-GEPSUS project. The aim of this trip was a visit of the public institutions and companies in Israel that are responsible for emergency response, which is one of the preconditions for the formation of the Center for the simulation and emergency response in Montenegro. The center will be established through GEPSUS project and located in the Air Force Base of Armed Forces of Montenegro.

Besides the visits that were planned trhoughout the project, the Montenegrin delegation had the opportunity to meet with senior officials of the Ministry of Homeland Defense and the Ministry of Defense of Israel.

Deputy Minister Cerovic had a meeting with General Director for Defense Policy at the Ministry of Defense of Israel, General- Major Amos Gilad, during which the question of signing the Memorandum of Cooperation was raised. This meeting created the conditions for the improvement of cooperation between two ministries.

During a visit to Israel Deputy Minister Cerovic also met with Minister of Homeland Defense Matan Vilnaiem. The strenghtening of defense cooperation between Israel and Montenegro was one of the main topics at the meeting. Israeli side expressed great support to Montenegro on its path towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration. After the meeting with Minister, Ms. Cerovic have met with the head of the Department of the Ministry of Defence NATO Uri Naaman, as well as the Assistant Director-General of the Ministry of Internal Security Eliezer Rosenbaum.

The last day of the visit, GEPSUS team had a chance to visit the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) which is a part of the Ministry of Defence that is responsible for the preparation of national capacities for adequate emergency response.

Visit to Israel was very important for the future implementation of the project and the cooperation between two ministries.

Members of Montenegrin delegation were head of delegation Mira Cerovic, secretary of the project Maja Vukovic and Captain Igor Buric, as well as the representative of University of Montenegro, the second Montenegrin partner in the project, professor Radovan Stojanovic.
